Why is the model/product distorted?

If the model or product looks distorted in your output, it is usually due to the input image setup, how clearly the product is shown, or how much the AI must infer during generation.

In most cases, distortion is not random. It happens when Dreem does not have enough clear visual information to preserve shape, fit, proportion, and details consistently.

Common reasons and how to improve

The input image is not clear enough

Dreem relies on the uploaded image to understand the product’s shape, structure, and details. If the input is blurry, cropped, poorly lit, or low resolution, the model may misread parts of the product and generate warped or uneven results.

What you can do

  • Use a sharp, well-lit image with the full product visible.

  • Avoid heavy shadows, blur, or distracting backgrounds.

  • Make sure the product is the clear focus of the image.

Important product details are not visible in the original image

Even when the image itself is high quality, small but important details may not be easy to detect. This includes elements like texture, trims, buttons, logos, prints, or garment structure.

What you can do

  • Choose an image where key product features are clearly visible. Close-up or detail shots can be especially helpful for showing small features clearly.

  • Prioritize angles that show the shape and defining details of the item

  • If needed, test another source image that shows those details more clearly

The workflow may not match the result you want

Virtual Model is best for creating on-model e-commerce content from an existing product image. If your goal is to preserve every product detail as closely as possible, the starting asset and workflow matter more.

What you can do

  • Use the cleanest product shot available when detail accuracy matters most

  • Compare results across different source images before choosing a final asset

  • Align your expectations with the use case: PDP accuracy may require a different review standard than campaign or social content

The first result may need a second pass

A first output is not always the best final assets. In many cases, the fastest way to improve the results is to upload a new starting image and regenerate, or start a new session with a better source image, rather than continuing with an asset that is only partially working.

What you can do

  • If key details are missing, try a better source image before moving forward

  • Generate more than one option and compare them side by side

  • Keep track of which source image types perform best for your team’s product

Key takeaways

Distortion is usually more likely when the product image is unclear, cropped, poorly lit, or missing key details, so start with a sharp, well-lit image that shows the full product and choose the workflow that matches the level of accuracy you need.

Because Dreem uses AI to generate new content, some variation or distortion can still happen even with good input images. Always review the output carefully, compare it against the original product, and regenerate with a better source image or another option if the result looks inaccurate.
